Robert Finley, 2003-2004 Canadian Writer-in-ResidenceRobert Finley is the author of The Accidental Indies (2000), a collection of lyrical essay-fictions that imaginatively explores Christopher Columbus' discovery of America and the role language played in shaping his perceptions and quest for the new world. The book won a Cunard First Book Award and shortlisted for Thomas Head Raddall Award for Fiction at the 2001 Atlantic Writing Awards. Eric Ormsby, author of For a Modest God, describes the collection as "Exquisitely written...a brilliant and utterly original work of literature."
