The Writers’ Guild of Alberta, Shelf Life Books, and WordFest will host Calgary’s 6th annual celebration of the Scotiabank Giller Prize in support of Frontier College, Canada’s original literacy organization. This event brings readers, writers, and supporters of the arts together in a vibrant and entertaining atmosphere to celebrate books, reading, and raise money for literacy. Local book reviewer/blogger and Vice President for the Writers’ Guild of Alberta Anne Logan will host the 2015 program.

We will gather to hear five Calgary literary personalities champion a Giller finalist, participate in some ‘Guess the Giller’ contests, and watch the gala and prize announcement on big screens. The 2015 lineup of presenters includes: Kelsey Attard (Freehand Books), Derek Beaulieu (CDWP Steering Committee Member and YYC Poet Laureate), Shelley Youngblut (WordFest Interim General Director), Nick Thran (CDWP Writer-in-Residence & Poet), and Deborah Willis (Former CDWP Writer-in-Residence). Each presenter will defend a nominated title.

The 2015 Giller Prize Shortlist includes Martin John by Anakana Schofield (defended by Kelsey Attard), Fifteen Dogs by Andre Alexis (defended by Derek Beaulieu), Outline by Rachel Cusk (defended by Deborah Willis), Arvida by Samuel Archibald (defended by Nick Thran), and Daydreams of Angels by Heather O’ Neill (defended by Shelley Youngblut).
