Evelyn Lau, 2014-2015 Distinguished Visiting Writer

Evelyn Lau is the Vancouver author of eleven books, including six volumes of poetry. Her first book, Runaway: Diary of a Street Kid, was published when she was 18 and made into a CBC TV movie (starring Sandra Oh in her first major role). Evelyn has also published several short story collections, an essay collection, and a novel, which have been translated into a dozen languages worldwide. Her poetry has received the Milton Acorn Award, the Pat Lowther Award, a National Magazine Award, and a Governor General's nomination. She has served as the 2011-2014 Vancouver Poet Laureate, as well as writer-in-residence at the University of British Columbia, Kwantlen University, and Vancouver Community College. Her most recent collection is A Grain of Rice (Oolichan, 2012), which was shortlisted for the Dorothy Livesay Award and the Pat Lowther Award.
