  • Faculty, staff and students recently received a five page questionnaire from the Management And New Initiatives Advisory Committee, which is seeking input into ways to save paper. The results will be compiled into a report and distributed to all members of the faculty early in the new year.
  • In October the Dean launched a fund raising campaign to purchase a new box of UHU glue sticks. The Provincial Government has pledged to match contributions on a dollar for dollar basis.
  • In November APG elected a new committee to look into the storage room next to the Main Office.
  • The coffee machine on the third floor now has its own website: http//sludge.com. Virtual beverage experiences are now possible via e-mail (accepts Visa and EVDS Gold Cards).
  • In response to the University's new Theme Based Research initiative, EVDS has chosen Lara's Theme and the Theme from Dances with Wolves. The theme from Trainspotting was rejected despite strong support from the Planning Program.
  • The area between John and Bob's offices in the EVDS workshop has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Landfill Site.
  • Student unrest due to continued massive financial cutbacks in higher education came to a head last term when three students discussed the issue over a beer in the Grad lounge.
  • The EVDS Committee on Political Correctness has renamed the PMT Machine, it will now be known as The Big Camera Thing.
  • In an effort to reduce the EVDS operating budget, from July 1st 1997 faculty members will be required to supply receipts for living expenses in order to claim their salary cheques. Unclaimed funds will go towards administering this new initiative.The newly formed committee set up to examine information technologies and new forms of instruction have reported that the current Config PPP has caused their hypertext to disappear up their URL. They are now considering expanding their LCP and IPCP options in order to increase their bps. We await their results with interest.

  • Provincial incentives to reintroduce native species to southern Alberta through domestication policies received a welcome boost when the Calgary Police decided to replace Alsations with Timber Wolves.
  • The Dodo, long thought to be extinct, was recently spotted in the Alberta Legislature.
  • The controversial new book "Tire Burning for Profit" published by the Asthma Association, has been endorsed by the World Wide Fund for Greed. A spokesperson said "Tire burning is fun - no smells, no smoke - it's very clean."
