Message from the Dean
It is with some regret that I wish to communicate to you that I will be leaving The University and the Faculty early this Fall. I have been offered and have accepted a newly created position of Vice-President for the Environment and Sustainable Development with the TransAlta Corporation. Given the wonderful years that I have spent in the Faculty, this was not an easy decision to make. This is, however, a unique opportunity with a fine company to actually create new environmental initiatives. I also believe that it is an indication of the external standing of this Faculty that they chose to dip into our ranks. In the coming weeks, I will be working with Walter and Ron to ensure a smooth transfer.
I will of course be very interested in developments in the Faculty and as I have indicated to faculty members, hope to maintain teaching involvement with the Faculty as well as ties to the Faculty's research and outreach activities.
I am happy to announce that Dr. Ron Bond, Acting Vice President (Academic), has appointed Ron Wardell as Acting Dean. A search committee for the permanent Dean's position will soon be set up. If you wish further information on the appointment process, please contact Pauline Fisk at 220-6606.
Walter Jamieson has been appointed as Associate Dean (Research and Outreach) for a three year term and Dixon Thompson will be acting as Associate Dean (Academic).
