World Wide Web

The growing prevalence of the World Wide Web (WWW) on the Internet as an information resource means that there are a number of sites that currently provide excellent information on ecotourism and related links. These include:

Newsgroups

Newsgroups are electonic forums available through Usenet, a sub-group of the Internet. There is a wide range of topic areas dealing from the erudite to the trivial. There are no newsgroups specifically dedicated to ecotourism, but there are the following groups that deal with associated topics.

Mail Servers

The use of Mail Servers has developed in order to provide moderated newsgroups that cut down on inane chatter, while focusing on the the stated subject matter. Individuals must subscrive to these special groups, and on average 20-50 messages are posted per day to member's electronic mailboxes, depending on the popularity of the group.

There is presently one Mail Server dedicated to ecotourism. Known as Green Travel-L, it acts as a discussion and information forum on ecotourism issues. To access it:

  • Send a message to majordomo@igc.apc.org
  • In body of message put subscribe green-travel listserv
  • You will then receive confirmation of membership on the list via email, along with a list of resources and group regulations.

If you require further details on this Mail Server, send an email to mendicott@igc.apc.org.

Green Travel is also available via WWW from the Travel Resource Center (GNN.COM) at http://gnn.com under Internet Resources/News Gathering and Monitoring/Ecotourism Information.
