We are pleased to note that the New Year has seen a dramatic surge in interest from our Male Allies, with several men applying for volunteer positions at the WRC and working as allies through our Women's Studies Community Service Learning course. We welcome any opportunity to work with men in promoting gender equality and look forward to providing a safe space for men to talk and share with each other how gender stereotyping has impacted their lives.
In order to continue to be able to provide a safe space for women of a diversity of backgrounds and recognizing that having a male presence in the Centre changes the dynamics, we have begun to implement our WRC Access Policy and Gender Reserve Times.
Effective February 2, 2009 the Centre is reserved for woman-identified, female-bodied individuals on Monday, Wednesday and Friday between the hours of 10 am and 12 pm to accommodate the diversity of needs of our female users. Male-identified, male-bodied individuals needing immediate assistance during those times may still approach reception, but will be assisted outside of the centre or asked to return after 12 pm.
We thank you for your understanding and if you have any questions, please contact us through women@ucalgary.ca or 403-220-8551.
