WELLNESS GUIDE
Canada's Food Guide (currently being revised)
Total yawn fest, right? Well, the fact is that the CFG is a great place to start in terms of building that nutritional balance and maintaining your blood sugar. The ideal situation is one where you have chosen the minimum number of servings from each food group, daily... but the reality is that if you average your intake over the week, you're probably in pretty good shape.
The suggestion for your daily intake can be accessed through the Canada's Food Guide to Health Eating website, or pop into University Health Services, the Faculty of Kinesiology's Campus Recreation, or your local Health Unit for a copy.
Proper nutrition also includes the need for other nutrients such as vitamins and minerals. There are over 50 nutrients that your body requires for optimal health. A diet high in fibre is also important for the health of your digestive and cardiovascular systems. An intake of approximately 20 to 35 grams of fibre per day is recommended. This is why you will want to try to have a diet that is varied and balanced. Also make sure you consume enough water throughout the day. If you are active or in a hot environment you will require more than your usual intake of water.
