Strategic Research Plan
This serves as a planning document for our university and defines our institution-wide research priorities.
Research Goal of the Institution
The University of Calgary will build on its strengths and entrepreneurial spirit to raise the level of its research, scholarship and creative activity to be among the top five universities in Canada by 2010.
Core Principles and Strategy for Research Planning
Research, scholarship, and creative activity are core activities of this university, pursued not only to develop our knowledge base, but also to:
- provide high quality education;
- enhance quality of life through development and application of knowledge;
- generate the theoretical background and empirical data with which informed policies can be developed and technological goals realized; and
- support individual and societal development.
The close relationships among the university, the citizens of Calgary and community partners demand diverse program offerings at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and excellence in key research areas. The university's research strategy must therefore be twofold; first to foster areas of existing and emerging strengths, and second to undertake a broad range of research and scholarship in support of the educational mandate.
Institutional Research Plan
Institutional Research Plan 2010
The Institutional Research Plan (IRP) was submitted to Alberta Innovates in December 2010. The IRP describes how the University of Calgary will build bridges in response to the Alberta Research Plan and achieve greater success through stronger alignment within the provincial research and innovation system. It serves as a planning document for our university and defines our institution-wide research priorities.
