“I use the knowledge I gained in UAdvance on a daily basis at work. This program is so helpful because of the breadth of the content it covers and because of the applicability of all of the workshops offered throughout the program. I think it’s great the University of Calgary offers such a program to its employees.” – Erik Henningsmoen, international project adviser, University of Calgary International

Spring is a time of renewal and growth, both in nature and in ourselves. It is also an opportunity to reflect on career growth and development. The University of Calgary offers a number of programs and workshops to support employees in achieving their career goals, including UAdvance.

The UAdvance Program aims to support employees in effectively demonstrating the competencies associated with success factors at the university. The program takes a blended approach to learning and provides instructor-led experiential learning workshops as well as online learning opportunities through Lynda.com. UAdvance is open to all university employees at all levels.

More than 1,100 employees (including both support staff, and management and professional staff) have taken at least one workshop or Lynda.com course within UAdvance. Of those employees, 170 participants have enrolled in the UAdvance certificate program and 54 participants have completed the program.

“The group discussion in UAdvance courses allowed me to expand my understanding of the university and also improve communication across units and faculties,” says Grace Wong, financial administrator, Haskayne School of Business. “As a result of this program, my confidence has improved to engage and handle difficult issues and conversations in the workplace. It’s worth participating.”
