Leanne Niblock, Director of Communications, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine
We’re Alberta’s vet school.
The University of Calgary’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is Canada’s fifth veterinary medicine school. Established in 2005, the first graduating class will cross the stage in 2012.
“We were conceived in Alberta and our focus is Alberta,” says Leanne Niblock, the Faculty’s Director of Communications. “Our program wouldn’t exist without the support of our community.”
With strengths in quality educators and program structure, U of C’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine prepares students for the real-world. Every student spends their entire fourth year working in the community. “They’re living their job while they’re still in school,” says Niblock.
Unique in Canada, Niblock knows the U of C’s program gives students an edge. “Because the program is so hands on, they’ll have an experience like no other.”

Best and brightest…
Inspired by the positive spirit of the Vancouver Olympics - we are celebrating our own best and brightest. Starting this week, we’ll profile people in the U of C community – faculty, students, staff and alumni by asking them to share what they are most proud of and what they envision for the future. Suggestions for future profiles or comments are welcome at ucpeople@ucalgary.ca If you haven’t yet nominated someone for a U Make a Difference Award – you have until March 23.
