What is a euphemism?

A euphemism is a mild or vague substitute for a blunt, explicit expression. Some euphemisms are acceptable in social situations; however, avoid using euphemisms that deceive or gloss over reality.

Euphemism Direct Expression
golden years old age
inner fashions underwear
pre-owned automobile used car
estate jewelery second-hand jewelery
abuser of controlled substances drug addict

Exercise

Type in a simple word which can replace the euphemism given in brackets. If your response shows as "Incorrect" in the status bar, the correct answer will appear in the blank.
