Program Description
Tours, France is located in the heart of the Loire Valley and is surrounded by some of the most striking examples of French Renaissance architecture, including the famed “Chateaux de la Loire” built during the late 15th and 16th centuries.
Participants will be immersed in French milieu in order to enrich both their linguistic and cultural experience. Participants will take two courses; one language course in collaboration with the Universite Francois Rabelais, and another focused on the culture and literature of the French Renaissance. The very location of Tours is where French Renaissance culture and literature was born and flourished.
The French Renaissance was one of the most creative times of French history, albeit one of the most turbulent. To understand the cultural phenomenon of the French Renaissance is to understand much of French culture and thought.
It is also indispensable to gaining a better understanding of Canadian culture, especially why the spirit of discovery and the thirst for new “worlds” was so strong at that time.
