Block week courses offer an intense immersion environment that can be exhilarating, but also stressful. Currently, there are few resources for instructors teaching classes in this unusual format. The aim of this writing workshop is to identify areas (time management, assessment, student engagement) that are often problematic during block week, to discuss the existing literature, and to collaboratively develop effective teaching resources that will be published as a website in 2019.
At the end of this session, participants will be able to
- Identify aspects of teaching block week that are particularly challenging
- Discuss strategies to address these challenges
- Develop resources for block week instructors
Conny Burian holds a Ph.D. in English and has been teaching German at the University of Calgary since 2004. She has a keen interest in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and is one of the University's Teaching Scholars.
