Talloires Declaration

On October 22, 2007 the University of Calgary became a signatory to the Talloires Declaraton, committing, in principle, to undertake urgent action towards sustainability in the following ways:

• Increase awareness of environmentally sustainable development
• Create an institutional culture of sustainability
• Educate for environmentally responsible citizenship
• Foster environmental literacy for all
• Practice institutional ecology
• Involve all stakeholders
• Collaborate for interdisciplinary approaches
• Enhance the capacity of primary and secondary schools
• Broaden service and outreach nationally and internationally
• Maintain the movement

This signing of this declaration by U of C's three levels of governance, the Board of Governors, the Senate and the Senior Administration commits the University to addressing environmental and sustainability literacy, ensuring all graduates understand the consequences of their actions on the interdependencies of the natural and human world.
