First Year Scholars Program

The First Year Scholars program connects the top incoming students with a community of their peers.

First Year Scholars

Fostering academic excellence for first-year undergraduate students, the First Year Scholars program will allow you to participate in social and learning programs exclusive to students who achieved the highest incoming averages upon admission or the recipient of a major scholarship. We provide resources and advising to support high-achieving students' academic goals while they're at the University of Calgary and beyond.

Students in the program have the opportunity to:

  • Connect with like-minded, academically talented students of all disciplines
  • Develop an academic plan during 1:1 advising sessions
  • Be mentored by an upper year student within the faculty
  • Study, eat, or meet others in the dedicated lounge space
  • Attend workshops focused on leadership opportunities and academic skills
  • Gain support in applying to national and international awards and scholarships
  • Access program materials at any time via the D2L site
  • Receive recognition of the program on your Co-Curricular Record

The program is open to students of all faculties who are entering university from high school.
