Soapbox Science Calgary 2018

Soapbox Science

When we bring science to unexpected locations and give people the opportunity to meet and interact with scientists, we break down barriers.

Soapbox Science 2019

Soapbox Science is coming back to Calgary, Alberta for a second year! The University of Calgary is excited to partner with the Calgary Zoo for the event. On Saturday, June 1st from 11am-3pm – women from science will be sharing their knowledge, passion, and love of science with the public. We are hosting experts of neuroimaging, microbiology, chemistry, conservation ecology, paleontology, physics, and glaciology. Our researchers are excited to share their work with the public, and we hope you will join us!

On Campus – Wednesday May 29th from 11am – 1pm

On Wednesday, May 29th the Faculty of Science is bringing Soapbox Science to campus and transforming the Taylor quad into an informal speaker’s corner.

From 11:00 am – 1:00 pm experts will cover curious topics like: How can you kill microbes with ambient light? What was the earth like in the age of fossils? How to concussions affect your brain? What’s in your inhaler? Can bacteria travel in outer space? What is nature’s icy bank account?

Be sure to stop by!  See you then.

At the Zoo – Saturday June 1st

Address:  West Lawn, across from Panda Passage, Calgary Zoo
Time:   11:00 am – 3:00 pm

Soapbox Science 2018

Showcasing our scientists

Soapbox Science is an international program promoting the visibility of women in science, who take to real soapboxes for short, fun, interactive and informative talks about their research. The Faculty of Science spearheaded Calgary's first Soapbox Science event in 2018.
