KEEP YOUR FRIENDS CLOSE: Protection Technologies for Social Network Systems
Thursday, December 3, 2009 11:30 am - 12:30 pm
Biosciences Room 561
Speaker: Dr. Philip W.L Fong - Tier-2 Canada Research Chair in Software Security and an Associate Professor at the Department of computer Science, University of Calgary.
Web-based social computing applications such as social networks, blogs, wikis and the like have emerged as popular platforms for decentralized information sharing. For instance, Facebook, a popular social network system (SNS), currently claims over 300 million active users. Yet, concerns over the security and privacy of SNSs make mainstream media news almost as frequently as news about their popularity.
This lecture will survey some of the security and privacy challenges surrounding social network systems, and offer an overview of research projects currently conducted in the iCORE Information Security Lab that are aimed at addressing these issues.
