The Emergency Warden Program is part of the University of Calgary's Fire Prevention and Emergency Preparedness and Response Programs (see Emergency Warden System).The Alberta Fire Code and the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Code are laws that require compliance by the University to ensure life safety for students, staff and visitors.
Emergency Wardens fill an important role in emergency evacuation as well as communications between the University and the responding emergency services. The information provided by the Emergency Wardens assist in the fast and efficient response of emergency services to the University.
The Emergency Warden Program exists in the majority of University of Calgary buildings. Building Emergency Wardens are composed of Emergency Wardens who are located on all floors of a building including a Senior Emergency Warden for the building.
The Emergency Warden Manual contains information pertinent to all Emergency Wardens and Senior Emergency Wardens. The manual will provide you with information regarding:
Emergency Wardens may print off the entire manual and combine it with their building's floor plans (see Building Floor Plans below). The floor plans can be printed off and used to highlight your evacuation area.
