Visiting Electives

* NOTE: Our office does not cover an honoraria for preceptors who take on visiting students

Thank you for your interest in an elective in rural/regional Alberta.  Please note, the University of Calgary's Visiting Clerkship Electives Policy has recently changed.   Please see the following web site for the new policy before you contact any preceptors http://www.ucalgary.ca/mdprogram/visitingelectives.   If this is not a clerkship elective, or your home university is not on the approved list, your elective must be an observership elective and will not be resitered with the University of Calgary or the Alberta College of Physicians and Surgeons.

If your home university is on the approved list, the next step is to find a preceptor:

  •  For urban Family Medicine Calgary elective, please contact visiting [at] ucalgary [dot] ca BEFORE you contact potential preceptors as there are restrictions you should be aware of.
  • For rural/regional Alberta, please visit our How to Book a Rural Elective page for tips on how to find a rural/regional preceptor in Alberta.
Once you have found a rural/regional Alberta preceptor, please send  the info below to ruralmed [at] ucalgary [dot] ca and we will request approval on your behalf.
