Funding for Undergraduates within rural/regional Alberta

Rotation Funding Guidelines
MDCN 330/430

MDCN 330: Up to $240/day (max. of $720/learner for all 3 days) for travel and accommodation

MCDN 430: Up to $240/day (max. of $480/learner for the 2 days) for travel and accommodation

NOTE: Please submit separate forms for each day completed.

Mileage is reimbursed at a standard rate outlined by the University of Calgary, see below for mileage chart.

MDCN 440

Up to $500/40 hour Block per student, available for travel and accommodation.

NOTE: Please submit ONE form for each Block at the end of that block (indicate all dates you have travelled to the MED 440 location).

Pre-Clerkship Summer Electives

Up to $500 for each elective (minimum 2 weeks) available for travel and accommodation (students find their own accommodation),

Clerkship (core) Rural Rotations (FM, O&G, Psychiatry & Paediatrics)

One round trip (mileage) per rotation, accommodation is arranged and paid directly through DLRI. NOTE: due to allergies, etc. no pet policy is in place

 

mandatory return trips are approved for course 8 from the following locations ONLY

  • Canmore
  • High River
  • Strathmore
  • Crossfield

Postgraduates (rural/regional Alberta):

May be eligible for travel (1 round trip/rotation) and accommodation expenses (core rotations are arranged through DLRI).

Please note, funding may change without prior notice - any questions, please contact the Rural Program Coordinator (ruralmed [at] ucalgary [dot] ca)

All claims must be submitted within 90 days of completion of activity.


Please note, each rotation type (clerk, resident, etc.) has different funding.  If you want to know what kind of funding (Travel & Accommodation) is covered for your particular rotation, please ask the Rural Program Coordinator (ruralmed [at] ucalgary [dot] ca)

Eligible:

  1. Travel - If travel is an eligible expense, we fund one return trip/rotation.  Since we use pre-set distances, gas receipts are not required.  If you do not have a car, please see the following Greyhound web site with information on student discounts. Greyhound travel is an eligible travel expense.
  2. Accommodation (only core rotations are arranged through DLRI, please contact the Rural Program Coordinator if you have any questions).  If you need accommodation for your elective and we provide funding, you are responisble to find your own accommodation and submit the original receipt(s) with your expense form.  Please note, due to allergies, etc. we have a no pet policy

 

How do I get refunded, what it the Process?

1. After your rotation is done, please fill out the Expense Claim Form

2. Tape  your receipts to 8.5 x 11" paper (in date order)- NO GAS RECEIPTS PLEASE, only ORIGINAL accommodation receipts are required.

3. You have a few options for form submission:

            a. If no receipts are required,  you may fill out the form and submit by email (ruralmed [at] ucalgary [dot] ca) or by fax: Fax:  403.210.3986

            b. if you have ORIGINAL accommodation receipts, you can mail or drop off the completed form and receipts to:

          Faculty of Medicine

          Calgary, AB, T2N 4N1

4. We will then process your claim and a cheque will be sent to you in the mail within 8 weeks of the submission date. (please note: the claim form MUST BE SUBMITTED WITHIN 90 DAYS OF THE ROTATION END DATE in order to receive reimbusement)
