Reseach Services works closely with Research Accounting, a Financial Services department.

Reseach Accounting oversees the financial aspects of research project set up, expenditures and over-expenditures, making modifications to accounts and compliance with the university's policies and procedures, as well as those of granting agencies. Research Accounting is responsible post-award financial administration of all University of Calgary sponsored research and restricted funding including:

  • university administered research,
  • endowment income, and other restricted, and
  • special purpose funds.

Research Accounting manages:

  • project set up,
  • revenue deposit,
  • overhead distribution,
  • monitoring of expenditures, and
  • financial reporting. 

Together with faculties, departments and trust holders, Research Accounting ensures funds are spent and recorded in accordance with the terms, conditions and regulations provided by the source of funds and/or policies and procedures of the University.

Research Accounting is subject to frequent audits from:

  • University Audit Services,
  • Office of the Auditor General, and
  • External funding agencies.

Research Accounting manages the dual role of policing funds and expenditures while facilitating financial management for the research community.
