WebCT 3 Resource Web Site

-- Patrick Kelly, Learning Commons

WebCT is an integrated set of course management tools that enable faculty members and others to easily design, develop and manage Web-based and Web- enhanced courses. Recently, the Learning Commons developed a WebCT 3.0 instructor and student resource Web site.

The Web site is intended for University of Calgary WebCT users and provides specific information about using WebCT at the University of Calgary. This on-line resource can be found at a new URL www.ucalgary.ca/Webct, created just for WebCT information and resources. The front page provides users with three choices; Instructors, Students and myWebCT.

Instructors
In the Instructor¹s section, instructors will find an on-line form to request a new WebCT course. Secondly, Course Management includes information on how to add students, contains login and password information for University of Calgary members, and how to create and restore course backups. Thirdly, a list of WebCT workshops available at The Learning Commons is provided. In addition, a link to the Learning Commons Web site is provided for those who are interesting in taking other workshops. For more information on the WebCT and other workshops, go to the Learning Commons Web site at www.ucalgary.ca/commons/facdev/calendar.htm. The fourth piece of information is who, at the Learning Commons, instructors can contact for WebCT support. Support includes both technical and design issues. The Learning Commons WebCT support staff is qualified to aid instructors designing and implementing a WebCT course. Lastly, Resources provides additional resources that may help create and maintain a WebCT course.

Students
The first link listed on the student¹s page, is ³What is myWebCT?². Clicking What is myWebCT? provides information on how to login to myWebCT and how to use myWebCT once logged in. Secondly, Account Information provides information about University of Calgary AIX and WebCT accounts. Thirdly, Resources provides a WebCT 3.0 Student Guide in a downloadable pdf format. Lastly, Student Resources provides students with contacts concerning problems connecting to or using WebCT.

myWebCT
myWebCT is a personal Web page that contains a list of courses that instructors or students are registered in. By clicking on myWebCT users can access their personal myWebCT page. Instructors that have a myWebCT page will notice the addition of a course titled ³WebCT tips, tricks and utilities². This WebCT course provides instructors with helpful information about designing and implementing a WebCT course. In addition, there is also the ability to share information with other WebCT users using WebCT Discussions.

The Learning Commons WebCT support staff would appreciate any feedback in order to enhance the current information on these Web sites.
