The Writing Centre

The Writing Centre is one of the best-kept secrets on campus. Staffed by writing instructors in the Effective Writing Programme, the Writing Centre is designed not only to help students meet the basic Effective Writing requirement but also to support students at any level, including the graduate level. Students can come to SS 301 to book half-hour individual consultations on matters ranging from how to use the apostrophe, to how to weave research results into their papers effectively.

Because of the intense time constraints that they labour under, most students are reluctant to take time to come to the Centre just because they have been told that they "have problems." However, they may be much more attentive if they are engaged in multi-draft assignments as suggested above, and are offered the opportunity to improve their marks by bringing intermediate drafts to the Writing Centre for suggestions.
