Consortium for Peace Studies Background

The Consortium for Peace Studies (CPS) at the University of Calgary was established in May 2005 by a group of peace workers from the Calgary community consisting of professors, professionals, medical practitioners and community volunteers. The CPS unites academics and community peace workers, students and peace enthusiasts, community groups and those in the business of peace, all with the intention of creating dynamic, energetic and complete research and applying that research in the community. Beyond these linkages and our research program, the CPS reaches out to the community through a speakers' series, various conferences, publications, a peace resource database and an annual peace prize that honours peace activists.  Along with uniting peace researchers with the peace community within Calgary, the CPS provides a centre for linking Calgary peace research with international peace research.

In the coming years as we continue and strengthen our research centre and community programs, we are also working to establish a Certificate in Peace Studies through the University of Calgary's Faculty of Continuing Education, and to create a dynamic interdisciplinary Peace Studies Minor available to University of Calgary students.

If you would like to find out more about the Centre's activities, please contact the CPS by email at:  peaceuc@ucalgary.ca or telephone: +1 (403) 220-2136
