Parking Permits

Buy Your Permit Online  

We have a limited selection of permits available for sale.  Art Parkade for the Winter semester,  Lot 57 (non residence) Lot 59 or McMahon East permits may be purchased online following the instructions below. 

Proof of University affiliation will be required to purchase passes for the East side of McMahon Stadium.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR BUYING PERMITS ONLINE: 

  1. Click here for the link.   On the left side of the page, click ORDER PERMIT
    You will be required to enter an eID and password.   What’s and eID, see below.
     “Your eID identifies you as either a member of the University community or as a prospective student at the U of C, giving you access to a variety of online services available to you through the myUofC portal. Some of these services include: Student Centre, Blackboard, Webmail, Degree Navigator, Contacts and Advisors, and Campus Recreation.”
  2. Select permit type and follow the steps to complete the process.  Payment is accepted by Visa, Mastercard or American Express. 
  3. An Email receipt will be sent to the email address you enter into permit order.
  4. Permits can be picked up at our office, please allow 1 business day for processing.

Annual Permits

Annual permits for Assigned lots are sold on a yearly basis. Prices vary by location, see pricing list for current costs. The average wait time varies dramatically by lot. It can be as short as 3 months or as long as 3 years. Ask us about options for faster moving lots.

To apply for an annual (12 month) parking permit, you will most likely need to join a waiting list. If you are an undergraduate student you may want to consider semester parking as you may be waiting up to 3 years for an annual parking space. 

Waiting Lists

Waiting lists are in place for all assigned lots. Priority on waiting list is given to faculty, staff and full-time Graduate Students. Assignment to these lots will take approximately 3 - 36 months depending on the lot chosen. If you would like to add your name to the waiting list you can do so at our office or my emailing:  parking@ucalgary.ca   

Residence Parking

Residence passes are sold online and in our office starting August 15. These permits will be valid September 1, 2011 to April 30, 2012.  If you need less than the 8 month duration, please contact our office.

Passes will be available online and in our office starting August 15th, in the following lots on a first come/first serve basis:

Lot 2 - does not have block heater plug-ins.  Located on the south side of the Art Parkade  Sold out
Lot 49 – has vehicle block heater plug-ins. Located directly west of Cascade Hall Sold out
Lot 51 – does not have block heater plug-ins.  Located directly south of Yamnuska Hall Sold out
Lot 57 – does not have block heater plug-ins. Located north of the Alberta Children’s Hospital

Passes will be provided to purchasers in the Residence offices when they check-in.
Persons buying this pass will be required to provide proof that they are living in residence.  e.g., residence contract.  

Having your own vehicle available while you are living in Residence may not be the best or most cost effective alternative for everyone.  Please consider the following options such as the Universal transit pass or joining the Car Share program before opting for a parking pass.  More information on these programs can be found at:

Semester Permits - Winter 2012

Permits are available for The Art Parkade and McMahon Stadium on a per Semester basis. 

Art Parkade - Winter semester permits on sale Thursday, December 1st at 7:30 a.m.

Those permit holders with only a Fall 2011 permit may purchase Winter 2011 on or before November 30, 2011 at 5:00pm.   After this time there is no guarantee of being able to purchase the permit.

McMahon Stadium Semester Permits - West side permits are sold out for the Winter term.  East side permits are still available.

Those permit holders with only a Fall 2011 permit may purchase Winter 2011 on or before November 30, 2011 at 5:00pm.   After this time there is no guarantee of being able to purchase the permit.

These permits are sold only to University of Calgary students, staff or faculty.  Proof of University affiliation will be required before purchase.

McMahon Parking

McMahon Park and Ride- East side, adjacent to Crowchild Trail

A user fee is still in place for the Park and Ride located on the east side of McMahon Stadium.  The daily fee is $3 in this lot.   We offer both pay and display and for your convenience, parking permits.

Pay & Display - $3 per use. Machines located throughout the Park & Ride Lot.  Exact coin, Visa or MasterCard accepted.

Permits -  Permits may be purchased in 4 month sections and are sold on a first come/first serve basis. (break down pricing of the permit is $50 per month, plus GST.
Permit benefits:

  • Monthly charge is the equivalent of parking Monday-Friday and paying the $3 each day.
  • You can purchase in person or use the convenience form- link located at the bottom of this section for mail out option.
  • No need to delay your commute by visiting a pay station each day.

Information to note before buying a permit:

  • We sell permits in 4 month terms; however should you find you no longer need the permit, we will refund any unused months if we receive the permit back in our office on or before the third working day of any month. If it is after the third business day, then one half of a monthly fee would be assessed. After the 15th of any month, no balance for that month would be returned. 
  • Should you forget your permit, you must pay the $3 at the Pay & Display machines to park in the lot.
  • Replacement fee for lost permits is $15.75 (GST included).
  • Permit pricing is subject to change; once the permit is sold, the pricing is set. However future purchases of permits could have pricing change. 
  • Should you choose the mail out option for the permit, the University of Calgary is not responsible for lost permits.

These permits are sold only to University of Calgary students, staff or faculty.  Proof of University affiliation will be required before purchase.

Currently all semester permits for the Fall 2011 are sold out for McMahon West and the Art parkade.

Permit holders who have purchased fall only in either of these lots have until November 30 at 5:00 pm to purchase their winter term or they will forfeit the ability to pre-buy the semester and will need to participate in the sale December 1 onwards if they require the pass.

A few permits for McMahon West and Art Parkade, Winter 2012 semester, will be available beginning on December 1, 2011 at 7:30 am.
