Art Parkade |
When are the changes being made? Our plan is to have the majority of changes in place by Wednesday, November 30th. Why are the changes being made? After many years the Art Parkade facility is undergoing a transformation to improve the customer’s experience. The gates at both the entrance and exit will be removed, virtually eliminating the traffic back-ups and drastically reducing delays. How will it work for those that pay to park each day? Customers will find a parking stall and then stop by one of the many paystations located throughout the facility, enter the stall number where you have parked your car and make payment. No need to return to the vehicle after this transaction is complete. Where will the paystations be located? Paystations are located in the exit path for parkers. Elevator and most stairwell lobbies will have a paystation available. I am an Art Parkade permit holder, how will I be affected? Permit holders will have a similar process to follow, without having to make payment each time. Every permit holder will be issued a new pass, similar to a credit card. Once you have parked your vehicle, you will stop at a paystation as you are exiting the facility. You will need to enter the stall number you parked in and then instead of payment, insert the new pass in the paystation. This will complete your transaction for the day. Your new pass and information will be sent out to you in the mail during the month of October. What are the future enhancements? By January 2012 further enhancements will be in place. Sensor lights will be installed above each stall that will help you quickly and easily find an available parking stall. Green lights will indicate available stalls, you should be able to view a section of the parkade at a glance, locating available stalls with ease. Once you have parked in the stall the light will go out and remain out if payment/permit swipe is received for the stall. Should you fail to make payment for the stall the light will then turn red. |

How do I apply for a parking permit? |
To apply for an annual (12 month) parking permit, please contact our office with your university id number. If you are an undergraduate student you may want to consider semester parking as you will be waiting about 3-5 years for an annual parking space. Semester parking for McMahon Stadium and the Art Parkade is sold on a first come, first serve basis. Check our Parking permit tab or online for what is current available. We do not take waiting lists for these lots. |
How much does parking cost? |
See price list for current rates. |
What about weekends? Is parking free? |
There is NO free parking on the Campus. When there is no attendant in the lot, a ticket dispenser must be used. Meters are also in effect on Sundays. (Meter hours are from 7:30 am to 11:00 pm Monday through Sunday). |
Is my permit refundable? |
Yes, your permit is refundable. Both annual and semester permits can be returned for time not used. Any permit returned on or before the 3rd working day of any month is refunded for that full month and any months following, up to the expiry date of the permit. For example, a Lot 12 permit year runs from April 1, 2010 - March 31, 2011 so if, in December, you decided to return the permit on or before December 3rd, you would receive payment for December through March. However, if you return the permit after the 3rd, you would receive payments for only January through March. |
If I live in Residence is parking guaranteed? |
Parking for Residence is sold on a first come/first serve basis. Please see Parking permit tab for details on Residence permits. |
What do I do if I forget my parking permit and still need to park? |
Any time this occurs, contact our office at (403)220-6771 or (403) 220-6772 with your license plate number and we will gladly put you in the computer system as safe for the day. Should you neglect to call, it may result in a ticket. |
What should I do if my car breaks down or if I have been drinking and cannot drive home? |
Again, the best thing to do is to contact our office with your license plate number and location of your vehicle. This one small step may prevent your vehicle from being ticketed or towed. We also have a motorist assistance program and will provide boosts, air inflation for tires, gas line antifreeze and lock de-icing. If you are legally parked and have consumed alcohol, you may leave your vehicle where it is overnight. Vehicles left for this reason must be removed by 9:00 am the next morning. Try to contact our office as soon as possible to insure your vehicle is safe. |
If I feel I have received a ticket without due cause, what should do? |
If you believe a ticket issued to you was unjustified, please click here for the appeal form or call us and we can email or fax you a copy. Parking Services staff cannot discuss the ticket with you but will explain the appeal process. A completed appeal form is sent to a committee, consisting of staff, faculty and students who decide whether the ticket was justified. Should your appeal concern a parking meter, contact us as soon as possible so the meter can be checked. The sooner you inform us about the meter, the more accurate the check will be. |
