Emerging Leaders Program
Begin your experience on campus by participating in the Emerging Leaders Program, a certificate program designed for first-year students. Learn more about how you lead and prepare yourself for more senior leadership involvement as you progress through university.
Whether you are new to the idea of leadership or a seasoned veteran, the Emerging Leaders Program will provide you with a great foundation to grow as a leader at the University of Calgary.
Why sign up?
- Be provided with opportunities to develop and enhance a personal philosophy of leadership that includes understanding of self, others, and community.
- Be better prepared for your educational experience, leadership and involvement opportunities.
- Learn and use multiple leadership techniques, theories and models to help you develop essential skill sets that will contribute to your academic and personal success.
In the Emerging Leaders Program you will:
- Be matched with a professional staff or faculty mentor
- Take part in a Fall Leadership Retreat in Kananaskis on Saturday, September 17 or Sunday, September 18, 2011
- Attend keynote speaker events at the UofC or in the Calgary community
- Participate in Student Success Seminars, University of Calgary Leadership (UCL) Program workshops, and Personal Wellness Workshops
- Attend arts, sporting, cultural and community events
- Get involved on campus in a club, society, service-learning initiative or related activity during your first year
- Complete an end of program personal reflection on your first-year experience
- Add your participation in the Emerging Leaders Program to your Co-Curricular Record (upon completion of the program).

Camp LEAD
Monday, August 22 - Friday, August 26, 2011
Registration for Camp LEAD is now closed, however we encourage you to apply to the Emerging Leaders Program.

Attend the first annual Camp LEAD, an exciting new program that will see first-year students spend two days and two nights at Camp Silversides learning the fundamentals of what leadership is, through both interactive sessions and outdoor adventures!
Registration for Camp LEAD costs a total of $50 per student, which includes:
- Transportation between the University of Calgary and Camp Silversides
- Two nights accommodation, and five fantastic meals
- Participation in dynamic sessions on leadership, values, and emotional intelligence
- Participation in outdoor adventures that include zip-lining and a low ropes course
- A custom-made leadership development plan at the end of the program
