U.S. prof launches series

Green urbanism will be the subject of a lecture to be held Sept. 16 at the Epcor Centre. Timothy Beatley, Heinz Chair in Sustainable Communities at the University of Virginia, will launch the Sustainable Urban Futures Speaker Series, a three-month lecture series presented by the Institute for Advanced Policy Research, the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Canada West Foundation. Beatley’s lecture, Green Urbanism: the Move Towards Ecological Cities in Europe and North America, will present findings from a year’s research examining the experiences of 30 cities in 12 countries. Other speakers in the series include Mike Harcourt, chair of the Prime Minister’s Advisory Committee on Cities, and Glen Murray, former mayor of Winnipeg.
