Karly Sutherland participated in the Undergraduate
Student Research Program in Bone and Joint Health. She and 12 other
undergraduate students presented
their research Wednesday. Sutherland’s research focused on the
effects heavy hockey bags have on children’s bodies.

Bercuson earns
Vimy Award
The Conference of Defence Associations Institute (CDAI) recently
announced that Dr. David J. Bercuson, has been selected as the recipient
of the Vimy Award for 2004. The award will be presented November 19 at
the Canadian Museum of Civilization.
Since 1997, Bercuson has been the director of the Centre for Military
and Strategic Studies at the University of Calgary. He is the also
Vice President of the Canadian Defence & Foreign Affairs Institute,
Calgary. The Vimy Award recognizes one Canadian who has made a
significant and
outstanding contribution to the defence and security of our nation
and the preservation of our democratic values.
Prof elected
to
foundation
Dr. James Frideres at the Department of Sociology has been
elected Fellow of the World Innovation Foundation. The foundation’s mission
is to help bring into being a new world order that is based on
equality, a sharing environment, human dignity, self-worth and
the economic cooperation
of nations as one nation.
Award
recognizes IT
remedy team
The U of C Information Technologies Remedy Team has won an
honourable mention award for its abilty to quickly deploy tactical
and strategic
workflow business solutions across the campus. The award given
by the College and University Business Officers Organization
(CAUBO) recognized
team members Ivan Runions, Kristen Anderson, Derek Fernandes
and Shannon Pokojoy. Haskayne faculty members win award
Drs. Norma Nielson, Anne Kleffner and Ryan Lee, Risk Management
and Insurance professors at the Haskayne School of Business
have been honoured with the Les B. Strickler Innovation
in Instruction Awards from
the American Risk and Insurance Association (ARIA). Their
class submission, “Introducing
Students to International Insurance Markets,” was recognized
for improving the quality of risk and insurance education.
