And
the race is on
Consider the
gauntlet thrown. Members of the U of C’s computer
science and electrical and computer engineering departments are looking
to take what began last year as an inter-departmental contest to the
rest of campus. The challenge is to determine which U of C unit enters
the biggest team in the CIBC Run for the Cure 5-km or 1-km run or walk,
to be held Sunday, Oct. 3. “We noticed last year there were quite
a few U of C teams participating,” says Elise Fear, an assistant
professor in electrical and computer engineering. “This time we
thought it would be fun to have all of the U of C teams challenging one
another. It’s a great cause and a great way to show the U of C’s
presence in the community.”
The fundraiser
by the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation last year raised $16.6 million
through the efforts of 160,000 runners from
across Canada.

information on the run, or to access the online system for race
registration, see www.cibcrunforthecure.com.
Aycock
is also maintaining a web page – www.cpsc.ucalgary.ca/~aycock/cibc.html – to
track the various U of C teams entering the event
