Chemistry
takes centre stage

The University of Calgary’s
Department of Chemistry will kick off National Chemistry Week by presenting
its
traditional 12th annual
Chemistry Show.
On
Oct. 18, more that 100 enthusiastic volunteers from the U
of C, the Chemical Institute of Canada – local section, the
Association of Professional Engineers Geologists and Geophysicists
of Alberta (APEGGA), the Calgary Science
etwork
and the Association of
the Chemical Profession of Alberta will head out of their
laboratories to dazzle audiences with a number of eye-catching
displays, demonstrations and hands-on activities.
The
free show runs from 10 am to 6 pm in the Calgary Market Mall
(Safeway Court) at 3625 Shaganappi Trail, NW. The
selection of topics is intended present the chemical
science as part of everyday
life.
This
year a variety of activities will be presented, featuring everything
from household chemicals to computer-aided
drug
design, glassblowing and freezing liquid nitrogen demonstrations.
