Chemistry
hits the mall
It’s not every day that you can learn about the mysterious and
magical world of chemistry while on a shopping trip; in fact, it’s
only once a year. On Saturday, October 22, the 14th annual
Chemistry in the Mall event will take place from 10 a.m. to
6 p.m. in centre court
at Market Mall. About 120 U of C chemistry undergrad and graduate
students will show off their skills and engage the audience
with demonstrations and hands-on activities.
Chemistry
professor Dr. Majda Djordjevic has organized the event since
1997. She says the show has become a tradition
in the department and in the community.
Eighteen
free displays, competitions and prizes will be presented to the public.
The event is taking place during National
Chemistry Week, and it’s being held in conjunction with the Calgary School Board
and the Calgary Science Network. The winning entries of The Wonderful
World of Chemistry Poster Contest, a competition between Calgary students
from kindergarten to Grade 9, will also be on display. Djordjevic says
it ’s going to be a “chemtastic
show!”
