Campus women take their place

The University of Calgary’s new Women’s Resource Centre is now open for business on the third floor of old MacEwan Hall, offering women on campus a positive setting to get together, discuss issues, do research and provide support for each other. The renovation, part of the 40th anniversary Take Your Place project, was made possible by a donation by Sheila O’Brien, the president’s special advisor on student life, and her husband Kevin Peterson.

New foundation takes up the challenge

When President Dr. Harvey Weingarten asked University of Calgary donor Darryl Proudfoot why more people in the oilpatch weren’t as committed to giving back as he and his wife Peggy Proudfoot are, the VP at Rider Resources decided to do something about it. With the launch of FEER, the Foundation for Energy Education and Research in Calgary, a new generation of philanthropists is raising money in support of students in oil and gas-related disciplines.
