Why should I get a vaccination?

The Calgary Health Region advises that individuals born 1970 or later may have received a first dose of the mumps-containing vaccine as infants. However, recent mumps outbreaks in the Maritimes and elsewhere indicate a single dose of mumps-containing vaccine has not provided long-lasting protection against the disease. A second dose of vaccine is recommended for adequate protection.
