The vibrancy of francophone literature and culture around the world will be celebrated at the University of Calgary during la Semaine internationale de la Francophonie (International Francophone Week) from March 19 to 23.

Hosted by Le Centre Français, International Francophone Week will provide students with an opportunity to discover various aspects of international francophone regions.

Beginning Monday, March 19, Le Centre Français will host a daily lecture discussing francophone culture around the world. Topics will include Breton immigrants in Western Canada, wedding traditions of Algeria, whether or not Western Africa is francophone, Quebecois identity through TV sitcoms and a skit about the variations between hexagonal and Quebecois French.

Complimentary coffee will be offered at all lectures, with a special treat offered on Wednesday afternoon. All events will be free of charge and conducted in French, providing an immersion experience. All are welcome to attend. For more information on la Semaine internationale de la Francophonie, please contact Dr. Eileen Lohka at 220-5875.
