November is SU Arts MonthTheatre, live music, visual artwork; there’s something for everyone as the University of Calgary Students’ Union designates the entire month of November as Arts Month.“Arts Month is a great opportunity for students to enjoy everything our arts community has to offer,” says Kat Lord, SU vice-president of events. “Throughout the month we have a number of events taking place in various venues throughout MacEwan Student Centre that celebrate different art mediums here on campus.” On Tuesday, Nov. 17, the SU presents Dance, Dance, Dance, an audience interactive performance put on by the U of C dance department. On Thursday, Nov. 26, writers on campus will present their work during an evening event entitled Spoken Word in the Space. Campus musicians will also be in the spotlight every Monday at noon in November with Lunch and Listen in MacEwan Student Centre. SU Arts Month will also provide an opportunity for campus artists and artists throughout the Calgary community to come together. On Friday, Nov. 20 in the MacEwan Student Centre north courtyard, the SU will host an Arts Fair. The fair is a celebration of the wider Calgary arts community with participants from Calgary theatres, art galleries and dance companies. “Our campus community has a lot to offer when it comes to talent,” says Lord. “This month I encourage everyone to check out the events and discover just how vibrant the arts scene is here at the University of Calgary.” For a complete list of scheduled Arts Month events check out the SU web site at www.su.ucalgary.ca/calendar/events/arts-month.html. |
