Haskayne students triumph at 24-hour competition

Students from the Haskayne School of Business placed first and second as 14 MBA teams from across Canada competed in the first annual Haskayne 24-Hour Case Competition, hosted by the Haskayne MBA Society. The winners were first-year MBA students Adam Foster, Julie Ann Gauthier, Jillian McDonald and Jared Poplawski.

"We did not expect to win going in," said Adam Foster. "We wanted to use the experience to test our MBA academic knowledge and apply it to a real-world problem."

Teams were given an issue faced by Calgary company Carma Developers, then had 24 hours to come up with recommendations. To help them formulate their responses, teams were allowed to discuss their ideas with a certified general accountant, and ask questions in a structured forum to Bob Clarke, an executive from Carma Developers. They then presented anonymously to a panel of Calgary business leaders.

Haskayne MBA students also demonstrated their abilities earlier this year when a Haskayne team took first place at the John Molson International MBA Case Competition, considered by many to be the Olympics of case competitions.
