Prospective students from as far away as Ontario came to get a taste of the University of Calgary last week. More than 700 students and their families joined in on the university’s second annual Information Evenings for Students and Parents. Designed to connect prospective students with their future campus, these evenings provided faculty and staff the opportunity to share their messages with the class of 2013.

“Providing future U of C students with the opportunity to learn more about our academic programs and services allows them to feel connected to campus before they begin their studies,” says Ann Tierney, vice-provost (students).

In addition to specific information from the faculties they have applied to, students learned more about the admission process, course registration, financial assistance, student life and the support services available to them.

“The transition from admission to registration to arriving on campus in September can be a confusing time for students, and we want to ensure they get the information they need at this time of year. Events such as these provide for excellent interaction between faculty, staff and prospective students and confirm for our prospective students that they have made a great decision in choosing the University of Calgary,” adds Tierney.

“We received great feedback and were very pleased that these evenings left such a positive impression on students and their families.”

Along with the Information Evenings, Student and Enrolment Services have several more projects planned to assist students with their transition to the university.  Several smaller, local information sessions will be held across Alberta this month. Students will also be able to access a registration assistance program when course registration opens this May, and they will also be invited to participate in a summer orientation program beginning in July.
