A sociologist who specializes in the areas of historical demography and family demography has been named the new dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Dr. Kevin McQuillan, currently professor at the University of Western Ontario in London, will begin a five-year term effective July 1, 2007.
“The Faculty of Social Sciences is home to leading scholars in a wide range of disciplines and is the choice for a very large number of excellent undergraduate and graduate students,” says McQuillan. “I hope to build on the strengths of the faculty and to help build an environment that allows faculty, staff and students to do their very best work.”
McQuillan received his BA (1973) from the University of Toronto and both his MA (1976) and PhD (1978) from Princeton University. He joined the sociology department at Western in 1977 and served as chair of the department from 1997-2002.
“Dr. McQuillan has a distinguished record of scholarship and a solid background in administrative service,” says Dr. Harvey Weingarten, president and vice-chancellor. “I believe that he will provide very strong leadership for the Faculty of Social Sciences.”
