RefWorks

New online reference tools funded by Students’ Union

RefWorks—an online personal database and bibliography creator—and Ebrary—online academic books—are now available to University of Calgary students, faculty and staff.

The two new tools are being funded by the Students’ Union Quality Money fund, provided by the University’s Board of Governors to allocate to the benefit of students. The funding to support Ebrary and RefWorks falls into the category of enhancing the student education experience.

RefWorks can improve the quality of students’ bibliographies and make paper writing easier. It imports and stores references from online databases and automatically formats those references into APA, MLA, Chicago and over 600 other styles.

RefWorks inserts citations into a Word document while it is being composed and then formats the citation information into a bibliography. Users can also create and share electronic reading lists for classes, research groups or group projects.

Ebrary is a collection of more than 30,000 online academic books in many subject areas. Users can obtain definitions and translations through an interactive toolbar, and can bookmark, highlight, take notes and print passages of text from a personal “bookshelf” of titles.
