Innovation. Influence.
Students choose the U of C because they want an outstanding university experience. Students collaborate with professors who are recognized leaders in their areas of expertise, and also mentors and teachers focused on inquiry-based learning. This style of learning encourages active learners who define the questions being asked and create their own process for finding the answers. The result: An opportunity to bring together students, subject experts and community leaders to explore issues and influence the world around us. An opportunity to engage students in their learning so they can be successful academically, professionally and personally.
Work. Life.
Students choose the U of C because they learn how to put research into action. Students work for potential employers, create solutions for communities, and apply research to create significant benefits for society. We facilitate these opportunities through financial support, co-op education, internships, study abroad, and individualized research with leading scholars. The result: Our students aren't just solving theoretical problems, they are actively engaged in solving society’s problems – real problems, today. The blended learning model of learning from experts as well as each other, combined with opportunities to create portfolios of real work experience, means students are ready to hit the streets with the confidence they need to work wherever they want.
Participation. Passion.
Students choose the U of C because they want to make a difference. Our academic programs are constantly evolving to nurture these desires and meet the current and future needs of our students. They are designed to foster the thinking, communication and teamwork skills that prepare our students to meet the unknown challenges ahead. The result: There are hundreds of opportunities for students to express their energy and passion outside the classroom – to lead students in international competitions; learn the benefits of collaboration on sports teams; develop political savvy through student politics; develop social networks through clubs; or find issues that need support through hands-on volunteer work. The university seeks out student input and involvement. We ask students to step forward and help create an environment that works for them – an environment that fuels that passion they arrived with on their first day on campus.
Engage.
Why do we do all this? Because students expect to have an enriched learning opportunity when they come to the U of C. They need the knowledge they gain in the classroom, but just as importantly, they need to know how to make things happen. Graduates need to know more than how to approach today’s problems; they need to know how to anticipate, recognize and solve the problems of tomorrow and the day after, and the day after that. The leaders and citizens we graduate need to know how to nurture their passion in ways that make a significant difference.
