The Millennium Music Foundation has announced that Dr. Howard Freeze and his wife Yolande, President of the Millennium Music Foundation (MMF), have donated a new Concert Grand (Model D) Steinway & Sons piano to the University of Calgary Faculty of Fine Arts for the Rozsa Centre.
“MMF began out of a pure love for music and a desire to share this passion with others. It is with this same passion that we are very pleased to give this precious gift in celebration of not only the 10th anniversary of the Millennium Music Foundation, but the 10th anniversary of the Rozsa Centre” states Yolande Freeze. 10 years ago at the opening of the Rozsa Centre the University of Calgary Faculty of Fine Arts received a Yamaha grand piano, the donation of the Steinway is the first piano donation since that time and the Freeze’s feel it is fitting anniversary present. “Pianos of this stature are rare in our city and this is a gift that the music community can truly benefit from and that music patrons can appreciate time and time again.”
Dr. Jeremy Brown, Head of the Faculty’s Department of Music says that this is an extremely exciting gift because the Faculty so seldom receives instruments of this size and quality. “New instrument bring new tone colour, new touch, and new expression for the performing artists and it will also bring a new experience to our audiences,” explains Brown. “Above all, we're really excited what this new instrument would provide to our students and faculty in their research. We are extremely grateful to the Millennium Music Foundation for this spectacular gift."
The Steinway piano will arrive this week from New York and just in time for MMF’s 10th anniversary opening concert featuring award-winning pianist Alexander Korsantia on Thursday, October 11, 2007. Mr. Korsantia has won great critical acclaim for his versatility, power and the unique sincerity of his playing and performances in many of the world’s foremost concert halls. The program includes performing masterworks by Beethoven, Chopin and Prokofiev.
