U of C hotel a first in Canada

The University of Calgary has entered the hospitality business with Hotel Alma, the first full-service hotel and conference facility of its kind on a Canadian university campus.

Charlie Fischer named Energy Person of the year

Oilpatch veteran and U of C board member Charlie Fischer has been named Energy Person of the Year by the Energy Council of Canada for his contributions to the oil and gas industry as well as his strong support of community and educational programs in Calgary and Alberta.

Glavic lights up T-Birds

The UBC Thunderbirds had no answer for Erik Glavic. The University of Calgary Dinos quarterback torched the T-Birds through the air and along the ground in yesterday’s 50-26 victory in Vancouver. Glavic completed 14 of 19 passes for 217 yards and a pair of touchdowns. “I really want to keep my completion percentage up,” Glavic said after the first-place Dinos improved to 4-1 on the season.

U.S. military action a failure: Dalai Lama

The U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq has proved to be a failure, says the Dalai Lama. His Holiness, who has been given an honorary degree of law by the University of Calgary, said the killings of innocent civilians have created sympathy for the militants. However, military action in dire cases is justified, he said, referring to the intervention of the U.S. in the Second World War and the Korean conflict.
