Search for new president progresses
The search committee for the University of Calgary's eighth president is on schedule to announce a new president in the first quarter of 2010.
The committee, made up of members from multiple groups on campus including the General Faculties Council, student leadership and staff associations, has been meeting regularly throughout the summer and fall. The quality and breadth of the candidates who have expressed interest in leading the University of Calgary has been impressive.
"To those of you who have participated in the process to date, I thank you for your commitment and input," said Jack Perraton, chair of the U of C Board of Governors and chair of the presidential advisory search committee.
Feedback from the campus community has been incorporated into the presidential criteria and can be accessed at

Warren Veale will officially take over as interim president on January 1, 2010. He has already begun the transition to this role, and has been meeting with various stakeholders on campus in preparation for a smooth entry into the university’s most senior administrative role. "We are in good hands while we continue the search for a permanent president," said Perraton.
Perraton thanked the members of the search committee for their commitment and all the faculty, staff and students for their contributions to the university.
"Together, we have created an institution that has assumed its place among Canada's top research institutions and an institution that is committed to top quality education," he said. "Together, we will continue to build on past accomplishments and capitalize on new opportunities."
