Celebrate ’88 At The Olympic Oval

Calgarians are invited to celebrate the legacy of the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympic Games with an Olympic cauldron lighting ceremony and free public skate at the University of Calgary Olympic Oval on Wednesday, February 13.

11:30 a.m. Reignite The Spirit: Olympic Cauldron lighting ceremony
University of Calgary President Elizabeth Cannon, Mayor Naheed Nenshi, Former President of The Canadian Olympic Committee Roger Jackson, Former Chairman and CEO of The Calgary Olympic Organizing Committee Frank King, and three-time Olympic medalist Catriona LeMay-Doan will lead this mini-torch relay and cauldron lighting ceremony, which will include a special Olympic Legacy Day proclamation from Mayor Nenshi.

6:30 – 10 p.m. Celebrate '88 - Legacy Skate
Relive the biggest party that Calgary has ever experienced with this ‘80s themed celebration. Grab your skates, some neon, your Sunice jacket and celebrate '88 in style! Public skating, free parking in Lot 10, pin-trading, hot chocolate, photo ops with an ’88 Olympic torch and very special guests – all set to an 80’s sound track. Could be the most fun you've had since 1988!

All the events are free, and everyone is invited to attend.

12:00 p.m. – Press Conference and Fuel for Gold Cake Cutting Ceremony
