Oval celebrates new roof, new season, new start

The Olympic Oval, University of Calgary, invites you to attend the season opening media hospitality day on Wednesday August 31, 10:30–12:30. This exclusive media event will be hosted by two-time Olympic speed skating gold medalist and Oval Associate Director, Catriona Le May Doan, and Director, Kameron Kiland.

This event launches a new season of high performance competition as the Oval re-opens following the major roof refurbishment project. Canadian national team athletes will be joined by members of the Chinese national team and representatives of the University of Calgary and WinSport Canada.

Building partners Cana Construction and Skyline Roofing Ltd. will be available to answer questions regarding the $9.7 million roof rebuild as the Oval resumes normal service to its elite athletes, the sporting community and all Calgarians.

Who: Two time Olympic Gold medalist Catriona LeMay-Doan, Oval Director Kam Kiland, Canadian national team speed skaters including Kristina Groves, (Silver medalist in the 1500m and Bronze medalist in the 3000m at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics,) Philippe Riopel, (finished 10th in the 1000m at the 2011 World Single Distance Championships, first year National team member), Cindy Klassen and Brittany Schussler, joint Silver medalists in Team Pursuit at the 2011 World Single Distance Championships, Lucas Makowsky, (Bronze medalist in the 1500m and Silver in the Team Pursuit at the 2011 World Single Distance Championships), members of the Chinese national long track speed skating team, coaches, representatives from Winsport Canada, The University of Calgary and Building partners Cana Construction and Skyline Roofing Ltd.
