University of Calgary students celebrate the final day of classes with volunteer projects around the city

April 11, 2014

The final day of University of Calgary classes is traditionally marked with Bermuda shorts, beer gardens and music. However, for the second year in a row, the university is offering students the opportunity to give back to their community through ucalgarycares BSD Day of Service.

This year, 120 students have signed up with the university's Centre for Community-Engaged Learning to spend the day volunteering at agencies across town. Students will be serving meals at the Drop-In Centre, baking for families at Ronald MacDonald House, sorting donations at the Mustard Seed, or preparing garden beds for community gardeners at the Wildwood Community Garden. Through this Day of Service, students learn the value of teamwork, community engagement and giving back.
