Improving grades through self-hypnosis

October 12, 2004

Repeat after me: ‘I am powerless to resist this story’

It’s the middle of October now and for many students the idea of straight A’s becomes more fantastic as each day passes. But it’s not too late to turn things around, according to Dr. Kevin Alderson, a University of Calgary professor and counselling psychologist who specializes in hypnotherapy.

Alderson has written Grade Power: The Complete Guide to Improving Your Grades Through Self-Hypnosis, which he says can turn any C student of average intelligence into an A student. All it takes is a little dedication and a willingness to harness the hidden power of the subconscious.

Dr. Alderson will be available for media interviews tomorrow, Oct. 13, from 10-11 am, in Room 281K of the Education Block. From 11-11:30 am, media are invited to join his Applied Psychology 321 class to see a demonstration of hypnosis in action. The class, in which 92 students are registered, is also located in the Education Block, Room 388.
