eLearning leverages technologies effectively to achieve educational outcomes. In the Undergraduate Medical Education program at the University of Calgary, several technologies are employed in the administration and distribution of the curriculum.
As a new medical student, you will first encounter OSLER, our online system for providing the UME schedule, courses, learning resources and community forums on topics of interest to students and faculty. The OSLER name was suggested by a student in a naming contest and voted on by the Classes of 2008, 2009 and 2010. There is a double meaning to the name: it reflects the last name of Sir William Osler, a leader in Canadian medicine, as well as being an acronym: Online Schemes, Learning and Educational Resources. Accounts are available to students, staff and faculty of the UME program. If you are an applicant to UME, you will receive instructions on registering for OSLER after you have been accepted to UME at the University of Calgary.
OSLER calendar synchronizes with most platforms - computers, smart phones and laptops. Find out more here.
Every student at the University of Calgary receives a Webmail account once they are accepted to the program. The eLearning team will email all successful applicants their account information prior to entry into the program.
